Tsuga canadensis Nana
Tsuga canadensis ‘Nana’ is a long-established dwarf form of eastern hemlock that has been grown in gardens for generations. Unlike miniature selections, this cultivar forms a broader, low mound with gently layered branches that showcase the species’ graceful habit on a reduced scale. Soft green needles provide year-round texture and a calm woodland feel. It performs best in partial shade with consistently moist, well-drained soil and grows slowly but steadily over time. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it works well as a foundation plant, shaded border shrub, or understory accent.
