Tsuga canadensis Cole’s Prostrate
Tsuga canadensis ‘Cole’s Prostrate’ is a classic ground-hugging form of eastern hemlock selected for its low, spreading habit and graceful, trailing branches. Rather than growing upright, this cultivar creeps outward, forming a soft evergreen carpet that drapes naturally over slopes or walls. Its flowing form highlights the species’ fine texture at ground level. It grows best in partial shade with cool, evenly moist, well-drained soil and develops at a slow to moderate pace. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it is ideal for woodland edges, slopes, and naturalistic landscapes where a horizontal evergreen accent is desired.
