Picea glauca Alberta Globe
Picea glauca ‘Alberta Globe’ is a naturally rounded mutation of the classic Alberta spruce, discovered and selected for its dense, globe-shaped habit. Unlike the upright conical form of its parent, this cultivar forms a tight, symmetrical mound with extremely fine-textured green needles. Its slow, predictable growth made it popular in formal gardens and container plantings throughout the 20th century. It performs best in full sun with cool summers and evenly moist, well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it typically stays under 3 feet tall and wide, maintaining its shape with little to no pruning.
