Picea abies Tompa

Picea abies ‘Tompa’ is a lesser-known dwarf Norway spruce believed to have originated in Central or Eastern Europe, selected for its compact habit and dense branching. This cultivar forms a rounded to slightly conical shape with short internodes and rich green needles, giving it a tidy, intentional look. It was valued in cultivation for providing classic spruce character on a reduced scale suitable for smaller gardens. ‘Tompa’ grows slowly in full sun and prefers cool climates with evenly moist, well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it remains modest in size and works well in rock gardens and curated collections.
