Abies pinsapo Glauca

Abies pinsapo ‘Glauca’ is a striking evergreen conifer prized for its distinctive steel-blue to silvery grey-green needles and bold, architectural form. This ornamental selection of Spanish fir creates a strong focal point in the garden, combining unusual foliage texture with a naturally symmetrical, broadly conical habit.

The short, stiff needles are arranged radially around the branches, giving the tree a dense, almost sculptural appearance. Young cones are often greenish or purplish before maturing to brown, adding further seasonal interest. Initially slow-growing, this impressive conifer can eventually develop into a substantial specimen tree, making it particularly suited to larger gardens, arboretums and specialist conifer collections.

For best results, plant in full sun in moist but well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position with plenty of room for the mature canopy. Once established, it can tolerate periods of dry weather, but performs best when the roots are not allowed to remain waterlogged. Little pruning is normally required.

With its striking blue-toned foliage, dense branching and impressive mature form, ‘Glauca’ is an excellent choice for adding year-round colour, texture and architectural presence to the landscape.
