Picea abies Pendula Major
Picea abies ‘Pendula Major’ is one of the earliest and most dramatic weeping forms of Norway spruce introduced into cultivation, valued for its bold scale and expressive architecture. Unlike smaller pendulous cultivars, this selection was historically grown as a statement tree, often trained upward to emphasize height before allowing branches to cascade freely. Long, sweeping limbs and dark green needles give it a powerful, sculptural presence. It performs best in full sun with evenly moist, well-drained soil and grows at a moderate rate. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it matures into a large specimen tree best suited for open landscapes and focal plantings.
