Picea abies Little Gem

Picea abies ‘Little Gem’ is a classic miniature Norway spruce that originated as a witch’s broom selection, chosen for its perfectly rounded form and exceptionally slow growth. Unlike many dwarf spruces that eventually lose proportion, this cultivar maintains a dense, cushion-like shape for decades, making it a longtime favorite in alpine and rock garden traditions. Short, deep green needles create a tight, refined texture year-round. It grows best in full sun with cool, evenly moist, well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it typically remains under 2 feet tall and wide, even with age.
