Picea abies Catharine’s golden heart

A new golden weeping variety of Norway Spruce from Bob Fincham at Coenosium Gardens. This one has showy red spring cones on the tips!! Originating as a cross between ‘Acrocona’ and ‘Gold Drift’ Named by Will Fletcher for his mother. Picea abies ‘Catherine’s Golden Heart’ is a distinctive Norway spruce valued for its striking golden-yellow new growth that emerges at the center of each shoot. As the season progresses, outer needles mature to green, creating a glowing “golden heart” effect that gives the cultivar its name. This spruce forms an upright, broadly pyramidal shape and provides strong color contrast in spring and early summer. It grows best in full sun with evenly moist, well-drained soil and has a moderate growth rate. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it matures into a medium-sized evergreen and makes a standout specimen in conifer-focused landscapes.
