Viburnum plicatum Tomentosum
Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum is a classic ornamental viburnum long admired in Japanese gardens for its elegant, tiered branching. In late spring, horizontal branches are lined with lacecap-style white flowers, creating a layered, architectural display unlike most flowering shrubs. The deeply pleated foliage adds texture through the growing season and turns shades of red and purple in fall. It performs best in full sun to partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil and grows at a moderate pace. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8, it matures into a large, spreading shrub that works beautifully as a specimen or focal plant.
