Tsuga canadensis Vermulen Winter Gold
Tsuga canadensis ‘Vermeulen’s Winter Gold’ is a striking color form of eastern hemlock selected for its golden winter foliage. During the growing season, needles are soft green, then gradually shift to warm gold and amber tones as temperatures drop, providing rare winter color in shaded landscapes. This cultivar develops a compact, irregular habit rather than a tall tree form. It performs best in partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil, where foliage color remains rich without scorching. Hardy in USDA Zones 4–7, it grows slowly and is prized for seasonal interest and woodland garden use.
