Tsuga canadensis Stockman’s Dwarf

Tsuga canadensis ‘Stockman’s Dwarf’ is a rare dwarf eastern hemlock selected for its tight, compact habit and extremely slow growth. Originating as a cultivated selection rather than a forest form, it was valued for bringing the softness of native hemlock foliage into small garden settings. Short, dark green needles are densely packed along fine branches, creating a refined, cushion-like appearance. It grows best in partial shade with cool, evenly moist, well-drained soil and protection from hot afternoon sun. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it remains small for many years and is especially suited to rock gardens and collector plantings.
