Tsuga canadensis Sargentii
Tsuga canadensis ‘Sargentii’ is a dramatic, spreading form of eastern hemlock selected in the 19th century and named for botanist Charles Sprague Sargent. Rather than growing upright, this cultivar develops broad, sweeping branches that arch and cascade outward, creating a graceful, ground-hugging silhouette. Soft green needles accentuate its flowing form and provide year-round texture. It performs best in partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil and appreciates protection from hot, dry conditions. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it is often used as a specimen or woodland accent where space allows it to spread naturally.
