Juniperus pingii
Juniperus pingii is a lesser-known Asian juniper species native to mountainous regions of China, valued for its fine texture and naturally compact, spreading habit. Unlike many cultivated junipers, this species offers a more subtle, refined look with soft blue-green foliage and a low, irregular form. It prefers full sun and sharply drained soil and grows slowly in exposed, well-drained sites. Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8, it typically remains low and broad, making it well suited for rock gardens, alpine plantings, and collectors seeking species-level interest.
