Cryptomeria japonica Buckiscope

Cryptomeria japonica ‘Buckiscope’ is a compact dwarf Japanese cedar valued for its dense, rounded habit and finely textured green foliage. Found at Kas Koemans nursery of Boskoop, The Netherlands is credited with the origin and introduction of this cultivar in the late 1980s. It was found as a branch mutation on a specimen of ‘Jindai.’ The name ‘Buckiscope’ is the former name of the city of Boskoop. This slow-growing cultivar forms a tidy, mound-like shape that maintains its structure naturally without pruning. It performs best in full sun to partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA Zones 4-8, it remains small over many years and is well suited for rock gardens, containers, and conifer collections.
