Abies balsamea ‘Tyler Blue’ originated as a naturally compact selection of balsam fir, chosen for its exceptional blue-toned foliage and dense, refined habit. Discovered by Tyler Nursery in Michigan, this cultivar combines the hardy character of the species with a distinctly ornamental presence. It grows slowly and steadily, typically adding 4-8″ per year, developing into a tight, pyramidal form. The short, thick needles display a soft, powdery blue cast with silvery undersides, giving the plant a cool, luminous appearance that stands out in the landscape year-round.
