Platyclatus orientalis Madurodam
Platycladus orientalis ‘Madurodam’ is a well-known miniature arborvitae introduced from Europe and named after the famous miniature city in the Netherlands. Selected specifically for its extremely compact size and tight, globe-shaped form, it became a staple in alpine and bonsai-inspired plantings. Bright green foliage forms a dense, textured surface that holds its shape naturally. It performs best in full sun with well-drained soil and has a very slow growth rate. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8, it remains exceptionally small and is prized in troughs, containers, and collector gardens.
