Microbiota decussata Siberian Cypress
Microbiota decussata, commonly known as Siberian cypress, is a low-growing evergreen conifer native to the mountainous regions of Siberia. Valued for its soft, feathery foliage and exceptional cold hardiness, it forms a dense, spreading groundcover that hugs the landscape rather than growing upright. Foliage is rich green during the growing season and often takes on bronze to purplish tones in winter, adding seasonal interest. It grows best in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil and has a slow to moderate growth rate. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it typically stays under 2 feet tall while spreading widely, making it an excellent choice for slopes, rock gardens, and cold-climate groundcovers.
