Carpinus betulus Columnaris Nana

Carpinus betulus ‘Columnaris Nana’ is a rare dwarf form of European hornbeam selected for its tight, columnar shape and restrained growth. Unlike the full-sized species, this cultivar remains compact, forming a narrow, upright silhouette with dense branching and attractive green foliage that turns yellow in fall. It prefers full sun to partial shade and adapts well to a range of soils, provided drainage is good. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8, it grows slowly and typically reaches 8–12 feet tall while staying quite narrow, making it ideal for small gardens and formal plantings where vertical structure is desired.
