Mountain Meadows Nursery has been in operation in Western North Carolina for 40 years. We are a retail nursery open to the public. We specialize in unusual evergreens & conifers, and raise miniature, dwarf, intermediate and large growing selections of Hinoki Cypress, Cryptomeria, Spruce, Juniper, Pine, to name a few. Many selections are used for Bonsai. Our plants are locally grown, and propagation is done here at the nursery. Our greenhouses include a wide selection of sized plants to meet your needs.
Our plants are displayed in arboretums, botanical gardens, zoo's, colleges, private collections, and are in home gardens around the country. We grow choice plant varieties for aesthetic value, native plants that provide food for our birds and pollinators, as well as a fine selection of hosta, flowering shrubs, perennials, and succulents.
Mountain Meadows Nursery is open to the public Thursday through Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, and by appointment Monday - Weds. Please wear good walking shoes when visiting the nursery! No pets please.
We reproduce our plants via hardwood, and softwood cuttings. And in cases where grafting is required to produce the desired cultivar, we use a side wedge graft technique.
Cuttings are placed in raised beds inside a greenhouse where they begin their lives in a high humidity, protected environment. Once the cuttings have rooted we transplant them from the raised propagation beds into containers, where they harden off and adjust to outdoor life.
Our plants remain in containers for several years before they become available for sale. When you purchase a plant with our logo on it, you know that it's been grown here at our nursery since its inception. We take great care to offer high quality plant material, and we ensure that all the plants we sell are healthy and viable.
We also grow plants directly in the field, in some cases, 15-20 years or more. This allows for slow, natural growth where the trees can develop good roots and a strong, healthy, natural-looking form that won't require shearing, trimming or pruning.
Once a plant has been selected for a new home, we very carefully dig, ball and burlap the tree in preparation for moving. Our preparation is done with care to ensure that the entire plant is well-protected for transportation and re-planting.
We grow a variety of Hostas, miniature and giant, some with good slug resistance as well as those that are sun tolerant.
