Tsuga canadensis Coplen
Tsuga canadensis ‘Coplen’ is a compact dwarf eastern hemlock selected for its dense branching and naturally tidy habit. This cultivar was valued for offering the soft texture of native hemlock in a form that remains controlled and predictable over time. Fine, dark green needles are closely set along short shoots, creating a refined, cushion-like appearance. It grows best in partial shade with cool, evenly moist, well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7, it develops slowly and is well suited to rock gardens, shaded borders, and specialty conifer collections.
