Chionanthus virginicus (Fringe Tree)
Chionanthus virginicus, commonly known as fringe tree, is a small native flowering tree prized for its airy, fragrant white flowers that appear in late spring. Native to the southeastern United States, it forms a rounded to spreading habit with glossy green leaves that turn yellow in fall. It grows best in full sun to partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil and has a slow to moderate growth rate. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–9, it typically reaches 12–20 feet tall and wide, making it an excellent specimen for naturalistic gardens and native landscapes.
