Chamaecyparis obtusa Well’s Special

Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Wells Special’ is a distinctive Hinoki cypress valued for its dense, irregular form and richly textured deep green foliage. This cultivar develops a compact, sculptural habit with tightly layered sprays that give it a strong architectural presence. It performs best in full sun to partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil and grows slowly and predictably. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8, it remains modest in size and is well suited for rock gardens, containers, and curated conifer groupings.
