Pinus parviflora ‘Azuma Goyo’

Pinus parviflora ‘Azuma Goyo’ is a Japanese white pine cultivar distinguished by its relatively short needles, dense branching, and compact, well-furnished growth. Like the species, its needles are arranged in bundles of five and have a blue-green color with prominent white stomatal bands on the inner surfaces. The branches tend to develop into distinct layers as the tree matures, giving older specimens the characteristic architectural appearance associated with Japanese white pines.

Growth is slow, particularly while young, and the plant benefits from a well-drained site with good air circulation. It is well suited to specimen planting where its branching structure can be appreciated, as well as to conifer collections and bonsai culture. Small cones develop with age and add additional seasonal interest.
